Parham Program
The Mission
The mission of the Cincinnati Tennis Club/Parham School Program is to create a positive relationship between the members of the Cincinnati Tennis Club and the students of Parham School. Through the language of sports, the community of CTC strives to surpass boundaries created by socio-economic backgrounds. The program is comprised of group lessons, tutoring and mentoring. This is CTC's way of giving back to the community that has supported it since 1880.

The School
Parham School is a pre-school through 8th grade school in the Cincinnati Public School system. Parham is located in the Evanston/East Walnut Hills area immediately adjacent to the Cincinnati Tennis Club. Under the leadership of Principal Sharon Johnson, Parham has gone from one of the worst performing schools to one of the top performing schools.

Parham School and Sharon Johnson have been featured in many newspaper articles. The Cincinnati Enquirer featured Parham School on January 15, 2001. In July, 2000 Secretary of State Riley visited Parham School. Secretary Riley requested that representatives from CTC attend the meeting. He was very enthusiastic about the community involvement of CTC. The Cincinnati Post documented the visit.

The Participants
Fifteen Parham School students, selected by Principal Sharon Johnson, participate in the tutoring and tennis program. Some of these students are in summer school. All of the participants meet at the school at 12:30pm for 45 minutes of tutoring. The students along with our Parham School Administrator head to the tennis club for 1 hour of clinics taught by our pros and other volunteers.

Seven Hills Volunteers Create Enthusiasm For Tennis
In keeping with our mission, Ann Williams, Rusty Schubert, and Susan Boydston oversaw the program this summer, while the real heroes, Laura Hoguet, Amelia Crace, and many Seven Hills volunteers donated their time to work with 15 Parham students throughout the summer. The Program consists of reading two days a week followed by a tennis clinic. It provides a great opportunity for the children to develop physically and intellectually during their summer vacation.
